The proposed Position Paper “Toward a National Strategy for Precision Medicine” was presented publicly for the first time on June 6, during the second day of the HEAL Italia Forum 2026 in Palermo. Recounting its origins was Laura Leonardis, Director General of Fondazione HEAL Italia: the idea, the determination, and the coordination of the drafting of the guidelines are due to her, supported by TEHA Group during the information-gathering phase. From that moment, the process entered a new phase: that of open participation across the entire network.
At the end of September, the Position Paper “Toward a National Strategy for Precision Medicine” will be presented in the main Italian and international institutional venues. It is not an academic exercise, but a document with the ambition to propose concrete guidelines for the implementation of precision medicine in Italy, in line with the spirit that has accompanied the project from the very beginning: from Medicine for All to Medicine for Each Individual.
The document is the result of a year of work coordinated by Fondazione HEAL Italia (Health Extended ALliance for Innovative Therapies, Advanced Lab-research, and Integrated Approaches of Precision Medicine), which has ensured its scientific rigor through focus groups and exchanges with researchers, clinicians, and policy experts from its network. But before finalizing the text, Fondazione HEAL Italia chose to open its drafting process to the entire network and beyond, through a call for contributions addressed to researchers, clinicians, experts, and citizens who work every day in research and innovation in this field.
The Position Paper is structured around 18 thematic areas: from innovation trends and the market potential of precision medicine, understood not as a single sector but as an ecosystem spanning multiple value chains, from diagnostics to the pharmaceutical industry; to the definition of challenges and opportunities for Italy; through the analysis of European and national policies; and the presentation of the HEAL Italia model with its eight thematic Spokes; all the way to operational proposals for a shared national strategy.
Those wishing to contribute may do so in two ways: by commenting on one of the areas already included in the index, with an observation, an addition, or a proposal; or by identifying a topic relevant to precision medicine that the document has not yet addressed. The form guides contributors step by step in making their selection and also allows the attachment of supporting materials, where useful. Before publication, contributions will be assessed and validated by a team specifically appointed by HEAL Italia.
