Internationalization

The Heal Italia Foundation promotes the international positioning of the precision medicine ecosystem it represents, supporting its partners in identifying and leveraging distinctive competencies in strategically important markets.

Specifically, it:

  • Conducts analyses of international technological scenarios aimed at facilitating the identification of technological development opportunities, starting from a self-assessment of distinctive skills/competencies;
  • Identifies international initiatives aligned with the foundation’s development plan and encourages the joint participation of the partnership;
  • Promotes the Foundation’s international accreditation to bring research products developed by project partners to the market;
  • Builds a relational system useful for the presentation of joint projects on strategic topics of common interest

Internationalization actions are planned for 2025–2026 in the United States, where the precision medicine market is experiencing exponential growth, with a wide range of products and technologies available, mainly in the sectors of oncology, genetics, and diagnostics. Below are the main products regarding precision medicine requested in the US market: Targeted therapies, Biomarker-based immunotherapies, Gene therapy-based drugs, Genomic and molecular diagnostic tests, CAR-T cell therapies, Non-invasive DNA screening tests (NIPT), Multi-omics panels for the diagnosis of complex diseases, Orphan drugs for rare diseases, Gene editing technologies (CRISPR), Liquid biopsy tests.
To seize these growing opportunities in the U.S. market, the Heal Italia Foundation will participate in the Bio International Convention 2025, taking place from June 16 to 19 in Boston, as part of the official Italian delegation.
The mission in the United States also aims to establish dialogue and exchange with leading hospitals specialized in precision medicine, in preparation for the upcoming launch of the Heal Italia Precision Medicine Centers in Italy.

To seize the growing opportunities within the U.S. market, the Heal Italia Foundation took part in the Bio International Convention 2025, held from June 16 to 19 in Boston, as part of the official Italian delegation.

The event is one of the world’s leading gatherings in the field of biotechnology and life sciences. It enabled the Foundation’s team to initiate dialogue with more than 30 entities—including universities, hospitals, companies, foundations, and government agencies—leading to the development of the following avenues of cooperation:

  • Collaboration with large corporations acquiring innovation through Innovation Hubs established by Heal Italia, aimed at accelerating the development of technologies for the pharmaceutical and healthcare markets and supporting companies and start-ups in certifying products generated through research;
  • Establishment of joint research projects between Italian and U.S. university research centers and hospitals (e.g., Columbia University, Mayo Clinic, Harvard University);
  • Support for investment attraction in technologies developed by start-ups, positioning Heal Italia as the Italian hub for the development of U.S. and Italian Proofs of Concept (PoCs), and thus as a landing platform for their expansion into the IT/EU market;
  • Identification of and connection with centers generating patents and intellectual property (e.g., NIH), aimed at developing U.S. programs that can result in products and start-ups in Italy through collaboration with Heal Italia;
  • Special projects and initiatives promoted by faculty members wishing to launch pathways for the production and development of research-derived products, leading to the creation of Italian companies that benefit from national innovation incentives;
  • Reverse export of intellectual property (IP) and patents: enhancing and transferring Italian patents and research studies to the United States;

Another key country of interest is Canada. Thanks to a recently signed agreement with the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada, the Heal Italia Foundation will receive dedicated support for the development of its international activities in the Canadian
market. This collaboration also includes participation in the Canada-Italy AI Forum, to be held in Montreal on November 11–12, 2025, which will explore how AI technologies and systems can impact the field of Precision Medicine.

Other countries of strategic interest are China, EAU, United Kingdom, Germany, France
and Japan, whose interest depends on significant private and government investments in
precision medicine.
